I work with you with whatever methods suit you best to suit your needs at your own pace because every moment is an opportunity for change. In addition to any issues you may wish to approach me with you may also like to know that I have particular experience of people on the Autistic Spectrum and with Asperger’s Syndrome.

Additional information
Online Therapy offers flexibility and a way of working together which can be exciting, challenging and very effective at restructuring and strengthening self-esteem, building confidence through practice and allowing exploration of specific events, themes and issues.
My specialist area is with people who are on the Autistic Spectrum, including Asperger’s Syndrome and ADHD.
Many people have problems to some degree with the myriad of information and stimuli in their environment. Online counselling reduces the immediate stimulation and allows for therapeutic distance, allowing you to focus on your therapy without distraction and offers you contact and connection in a different but more accessible way. |

Description of therapy services
I work both face to face and online. Online counselling can be by live text chat (using Skype) or by email exchange. I guess you may be reading this because you have reached a point where you have decided you can no longer carry on the way things are and that it is time to make some changes. If so, well done on reaching this decision, it takes courage to do so and I commend you.
My name is Penny Humble and I am a qualified counsellor based in Gloucestershire. I have worked as a counsellor for the NHS IAPT service (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies) in Gloucester and Cheltenham for two years, and I have also worked as a Samaritan in Gloucester. I am a member of the BACP and therefore bound by their code of ethical practice, and of course I am fully insured.
I truly believe in the power of human beings to be able to help themselves, and in the power of counselling to facilitate this. I aim to provide a friendly, down-to-earth and affordable service. Counselling can be a challenging process but I will be there to give the very best support that I can offer.
Why Counselling?
People come to counselling for many reasons. Some may be struggling to move forwards after a bereavement or other life-changing event. Some may suffer from debilitating lack of confidence. Depression, anxiety, addictions and disordered eating, confusion about who we are and how we fit into this world. Maybe it is anger holding you back, preventing you from enjoying life and making the best of your world. For all of these and many more, counselling offers a safe, non-judgmental place to explore the issues and how they have arisen. In understanding ourselves better and in simply being heard and accepted we can begin to move forwards.
My training was predominantly in Person-centred and Psychodynamic theories. In counselling work I combine these theories according to what is helpful at the time.
Experience of working online
Online work is a relatively new venture for me, and one which I truly believe in. Many people find it easier to open up online than they do face to face. When I was working as a Samaritan, we had just started taking emails from callers in addition to contacts by telephone, and I was struck by just how many people we were able to reach and support who would have felt too daunted to pick up the phone. Thus I completed my OCST training course and have begun taking online clients from August 2012. I am very pleased with how it is going and to have added this way of working to my skillset.

Description of therapy services
I am interested in the difficult stories I hear, respect the clients' wisdom and listen to the story and the person in ways to help them grow strong. In my experience people are never just passive receivers of what life throws them. I like working collaboratively with clients and am willing to work cognitively when clients request that approach.

Description of therapy services
I offer counselling online via email or live text sessions and also by telephone via Skype or phone as well as face-to-face in Bedfordshire. Online counselling can offer a convenient and easy way to access counselling and psychotherapy. I can offer either short-term counselling for those wanting to work on one or two issues that can easily be managed in a few sessions. I also offer counselling on a more open-ended basis when perhaps longer term or more persistent issues can be worked on. I will work with you to understand whatever is troubling you so that we can identify together how you can move forward.
Experience of working online
As an experienced counsellor and psychotherapist, I have supported many people with a variety of issues since 1999. As part of my ongoing development, I have recently added online counselling to my ways of working. I am excited about the opportunities this modern way of working offers, and how it opens up counselling to those who might it difficult to attend face-to-face appointments. Additional information
I specialise in email counselling as I feel there are additional therapeutic benefits to the built in ‘reflection time’ email offers. When you get in touch I will send my info sheets explaining how email counselling works and giving more information about me and my practice. You are free to email me with any queries. If you wish to proceed with counselling you fill in my registration form, which provides structured questions to help you consider and communicate what issue/s you wish to bring to counselling, how they are impacting on your life and what you would like to change. I will read this carefully to help me assess whether I think email counselling will be of benefit and whether I am the right person to help. If not I will make suggestions for what else you might try. This form will also make a start to our work together and my first counselling email to you will respond to what you have written on your form and offer suggestions and questions as the basis for how we can take the work further. |

Description of therapy services
I am an experienced therapist of some 30 years, working with individuals and couples. I work in a flexible way, according to the needs of my clients. I believe it takes an enormous amount of courage to visit a therapist and I take great care to create a welcoming and safe environment within which clients are able to approach their issues.
Experience of working online
I have been working on-line for the past six years and have found that clients appreciate the flexibility of contacting me when it is convenient to them. I think it needs even more care in forming a trusting working alliance on-line, in the absence of the clues of body language and eye contact. Although, having said that, I am now doing quite a lot of work using video on Skype. Often a client will begin with face-to-face work and then move to on-line when their circumstances change.

Description of therapy services
I offer counselling online, through exchange of email or IM (chat).
I see my role as therapist as being alongside you in your journey. I will work with you, helping you to explore whatever you wish in counselling. Gaining understanding and insight into life's challenges can unlock our potential as human beings.
Experience of working online
Although an experienced therapist with over 10 years working in the NHS, I am relatively new to working online.
However, I am enthusiastic about the possibilities it offers. Online therapy allows opportunities to work free from the constraints of weekly appointments with a counsellor, using the richness of text and the advantage of the written record to allow time for reflection and thought.

Description of therapy services
I work fundamentally using the person centred approach which underpins the couple and family work that I do within a Family Centre Setting. I also worked for Relate as a Relationship Therapist for 3 years and still work for Relate but through the online service that they provide. I work in high schools with 14/16 year olds providing individual counselling to help them cope with the stressors of adolescence and family life. All my work is to effect change in order to move forward from unresolved issues and to work out problems that keep someone “stuck” in the moment.
Experience of working online
I have worked as an 'email a counsellor' for Relate for the past 12 months helping people with difficulties in their couple/family relationships. I have also worked for 3 years for Kooth.com which is a young person’s online counselling site that supports 11-23 year olds with issues that they find hard to talk about face to face.

Description of therapy services
My counselling is based on a Humanistic-Existential approach, which recognises that we all need to find our own meaning and path in life. I focus on helping you develop your self-awareness, to understand how you relate to yourself and the world around you. I work flexibly with the needs of the individual client, integrating appropriately from other counselling approaches; principally Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy. I will work with you to identify your strengths, challenge unhelpful thinking cycles, and utilise your inner resources to develop new coping strategies and move forward in a more positive direction.
Each client is, of course, unique, and it is important that I acknowledge and work with the diversity within the counselling relationship, as I aim to create a safe, non-judgemental, trusting therapeutic space. We will work collaboratively to help you express yourselves fully, and reflect on and explore your issues.
I will have a regular review with you, at around the 6th session, to enable you to reflect on the counselling process, and decide whether you have got everything you need from counselling, or whether you feel more sessions would help.
Experience of working online
I have been working online for the past year since qualifying for the Online Counselling Skills Certificate from Online Counselling Services and Training. Over the summer of 2011 I set up the online counselling service at Cardiff University and provide online counselling to staff and students via email, IM or Skype webcam.
I also offer online counselling as part of my private counselling practice.
