What is SOS?

SOS offers an opportunity for counsellors seeking supervision with a counselling issue to receive an alternative objective view in a one-off response from a professional supervisor with no strings attached. It does not aim to replace regular ongoing supervision; its purpose is to ‘fill a gap' or to offer another perspective.

Terms and Conditions

Before taking any action please read these Terms and Conditions. If you go ahead with SOS we will assume you have read and agreed to them

1. The SOS (Supervision One-off Service) is run by professionals for professionals and it expects all who make use of the service to respect and abide by the ethics of ACTO and their own professional counselling/therapy body.

2. The service being offered is NOT a substitute for the regular supervision one receives as required by the professional counselling bodies. Its aim is to offer an objective alternative view to a counselling/therapy issue that is troubling you. You may/may not have chosen to discuss the issue with your regular supervisor.

3. Each supervisor's response will be consistent with BACP's Ethical Framework for Good Practice, BACP's Guidelines for Online Counselling and Supervision (2nd edition) and ACTO's Code of Ethics.

4. Users of the service may choose a supervisor from a list of supervisors asterisked in ACTO's Supervisors Directory. Examples of each individual supervisor's style of response can be accessed from the SOS webpage.

5. Users may view, use and store the supervisor's response for personal use only. It is not permitted to use the information in any other way without first seeking written permission from the supervisor.

6. All correspondence shall be conducted in the English language.

7. Users agree to take responsibility for maintaining good practice by ensuring they work in the same virus-free environment as the supervisors work.

8. A Supervisor will respond to the user's email only when payment has been received.

9. The user can expect a reply from a Supervisor within 72 hours unless they are given alternative information.

Sending an SOS

If you haven't done so already, please read the terms and conditions for our SOS (above this paragraph) then follow the Steps below.

Step 1 Use the Google button below to make your payment (£25) to ACTO SOS.

Google notifies ACTO immediately a payment is made and you will be returned automatically to this webpage.

Disclaimer

Although ACTO has made every effort to check the professional approach and suitability of its SOS supervisors, (the specimen responses are evidence of this), occasionally things do go wrong. ACTO accepts no responsibility for the quality of the Supervisors' work so any dissatisfaction should be communicated to the supervisor concerned.

Step 2 Choose which SOS Supervisor to email from the Directory of Supervisors, click the email link beside their name and write your email putting SOS in the subject line.

Step 3 Send your email. You will receive a reply from the Supervisor telling you they have received it.

Your SOS reply will arrive in your email Inbox within 72 hours (look for SOS in the Subject line).
